Cabra Castle Celebrates 30 Year Milestone

30 years ago, the Corscadden Family moved to Cabra Castle in County Cavan and re-opened it as the magnificent castle hotel it is today. This month, we are celebrating 30 wonderful years of hospitality as one of Ireland’s leading luxury castle hotels and wedding venues, hosting more than 5,500 weddings over the last three decades.

What began as a 22-bedroom castle hotel, the Corscadden family expanded in to the 105-bedroom multi-award winning, majestic castle it is today by incorporating and refurbishing the former courtyard and gate lodge along with building six cottages on the castle estate. As well as the 105 stunning bedrooms, the castle boasts stunning architecture, opulent reception rooms together with period features and furnishings to create an authentic, old-world charm immersing guests in a rich Irish history and treating them to a truly authentic Irish Castle experience.

Speaking on the 30-year milestone, Howard Corscadden, Managing Director of the Romantic Castles of Ireland collection said:

After 30 years, we’re thrilled to pay tribute to an extraordinary past of Cabra Castle and herald an exciting future. 30 years ago, when we first re-opened the doors of Cabra Castle, our aim was to treat guests to a luxury experience in the unique surroundings of an authentic Irish castle. Our innovative and entrepreneurial approach has remained the inspiration for our development over the last 30 years in Cabra Castle.”

Throughout the 30 years, it’s not just the castle interiors that have been renovated. Idyllically set on a 100-acre estate, an Italian Style Rose Garden and Gallerie Veranda have been created, the terrace and patio redeveloped and situated perfectly to enhance the majestic natural scenery, the car park upgraded and the introduction of a car free zone to the front of the castle to make the castle even more picturesque.

Cabra Castle was the foundation of the Corscadden family’s love affair with Irish castles and the beginning of the Romantic Castles of Ireland. Over the last 30 years, they have gone on to add three more castles to their collection with the addition of Ballyseede Castle in County Kerry in 2005, Bellingham Castle in County Louth in 2012, and most recently Markree Castle in County Sligo in 2015, all under the management and ownership of the Corscadden family. Each castle a landmark in an outstanding location with its own distinct personality and charm that is rooted in, and authentic to, the four provinces of Ireland.

The Corscadden family are incredibly grateful to our magnificent team working here at Cabra Castle over the last 30 years, our wonderful suppliers, the ongoing support from guests that return year after year, as well as those who visit our castle for the very first time. These are the people who help make Cabra Castle the majestic destination it is today and has been over the last 30 remarkable years. With many exciting future plans for Cabra Castle and the other castles in the Romantic Castles of Ireland collection, we all cannot wait to see what the next 30 years have in store for us!
